When I came back home from work on Monday 2nd August, Martin asked me if I wanted to sit down as he had some news that I wasn’t going to like… My first thought was for my mother, then he carried on saying that there had been a call from ‘Leslie home’ and that her sister Angela had called… I knew the next bit. Although this kind of news was expected, I was still very shocked, and I still can't believe it.
Her office, well, that was Leslie’s office, it couldn’t be mistaken for someone else’s!
When we had to stop smoking in the open plan office (I can't believe we used to do that!),
I used to pop into Leslie’s room and had a ‘fag’ there. I have poured my
heart out at times (I’m sure a few ‘selected’ people know all about it) and we also had
a few giggles… She was a little bit like a mum or auntie to me for a
while, she took me in when I went through a bad spell in my life
(self-inflicted) until I could find my feet again.
On Tuesday 17th, some people commented on her driving skills. I have experienced them, though I’m sure I’m not the only one! A few of us used to go to the pub for a few drinks after work to celebrate a birthday, a colleague leaving, etc. Leslie has given me a lift back home a few times after such events, needless to say there were a few hairy moments on the way!
I just want to say thank you Leslie, it’s been lovely knowing you (and an experience!). I'm sure you'll be telling them all up there what's what and tough if they don't agree with you! x
